This is THE marinara we use for our Espresso Balsamic Meatballs!
Ingredients
2 Tbsp Spicy Calabrian Pesto Olive Oil or any Olive Oil of your choosing
3 garlic cloves, peeled and minced
1 medium onion, finely chopped
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp black pepper
1/4 tsp red pepper flakes (optional, for some heat)
1 tsp dried basil
1 tsp dried oregano
Directions
In a large saucepan, heat the Pesto Olive Oil over medium-low heat.
Add the minced garlic and chopped onion and cook, stirring occasionally, for 5 to 6 minutes or until the garlic and onion are lightly golden and fragrant.
Add the crushed tomatoes, salt, black pepper, red pepper flakes (if using) and herbs to the saucepan. Stir well to combine.
Bring the sauce to a simmer and let it cook, stirring occasionally, for 20-30 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened, and reduced slightly.
Taste and adjust the seasoning as needed.
Use the marinara sauce immediately or let it cool and store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or in the freezer for up to 6 months.
